Aston, Pa.- Neumann lost to Centenary College today 1-0 on a disputed penalty kick in the 103rd minute of play. Melanie Pupo scored the penalty kick to win it for Centenary College. Before the Game, the Knights honored its three seniors, Angela Juliano, Casey Geary, and Stephanie Lutz. All three are the captains for the Knights this year and have contributed to the women's soccer program for the past four years at Neumann College. The play opened up to Neumann's advantage as they strung a bunch of early chances together but could not find the first goal of the game. Casey Geary (Ocean City, NJ /Ocean City) was the closest with a breakaway opportunity but sent it wide. Centenary steeled down and added chances of their own but goalie Caitlin Agnew (Philadelphia, Pa. /Little Flower) came up big to end any hope for Centenary. The first half ended in a goalless draw. In the second half, Centenary added a plethora of goal scoring opportunities but once again Agnew came up big for the Knights. The Knights had their chances late on with their best chance coming early in the second half. A Casey Geary free kick found Vicky Segal's (Phoenixville, Pa. /Phoenixville) head but just sent it over the bar. At the final whistle the game was still deadlocked and needed extra time. In extra time, Centenary put tremendous pressure on the Knights and were rewarded with a penalty kick late in the overtime. Melanie Pupo took the penalty kick and sent it side panel as Centenary played spoilers to Neumann's Senior Day. Neumann looks to rebound Thursday at College of Misericordia in a PAC conference match up at 7:00 PM. |
