Reading, Pa. - The newly crowned P.A.C champions travelled to Penn State-Berks today for a men's tennis match. Head Coach Chris Gosseaux was wary of a let down from his team. But the Knights demonstrated why they are the best of the P.A.C. defeating PSU-Berks 7-2. The Knights fared well in doubles taking a 2-1 lead. Seniors John Slinka and Andrew Bitar fell at first doubles 6-8. But senior Barry Harvey and sophomore Dan Harnos got the Knights a point at second doubles winning 8-6. The key point came down to third doubles and freshmen Chris Brown and Greg Bridgeman took control of the match winning 8-2. In singles play the Knights conditioning took over the match. Brown faced a very tough opponent at first singles and lost 3-6, 0-6. Gosseaux stated, "Chris's opponent today was arguably the best opponent he faced all year." With the match tied at 2-2 the Knights went back to work. Bridgeman won at second singles 6-2, 6-2 while Slinka picked up a win at third singles 6-2, 6-3. P.A.C. MVP Dan Harnos continued the success at fourth singles with a win 6-1, 6-1. The three wins gave the Knights a commanding 5-2 lead and they never looked back. Senior Andrew Bitar fought through a challenging match at fifth singles to win 6-4, 1-6, (10-4) while senior Barry Harvey prevailed at sixth singles 6-1, 6-2. This win gave the Knights a 7-2 victory. The Knights improve to 15-3 overall for the season. They will return to action on Wednesday April 23, 2008 when the host the Ramapo Roadrunners out of the NJAC. The match will be the last home match of the season for the Knights. |
